Okay...I've been wearing wigs since 2005, half wigs, full wigs, falls, pieces, lace fronts, you name it, I've had it. I've always had hair...just hated dealing with it until recently so I'd get a relaxer and throw a half wig on it, looked just like a sew in...good enough for me. So I like to think of myself as a "professional" of sorts when it comes to this topic. Now within the past year or so we have seen the emergence of lace fronts in our communities. I was all for it! Especially since I decided to transition to natural hair, so I dropped my little 70 something bucks on my first lace front...
But as lace fronts became more affordable I began to see something that troubled my heart...everyone now wears one...okay, that's fine...but they wear them wrong!!!!!!! Just because the wig covers your entire head doesn't mean you should get platinum blond...your eyebrows are still black, you look like a fool. Also, lace fronts come with combs, insert that into your natural hairline, the hairline of your lace front should not be two inches above your eyebrows boo boo.
This is the incorrect way to wear a lace front...notice my sad face.
See how much happier I look by just pulling back the hair a bit? (And that's not even with adjusting, just pulled it back a little)
It's really not hard to do....also I don't recommend gluing/taping this to your head....yeah just take the mutha fucka off at night...keeps it fresher anyway.
**addendum** My fellow blog buddy Khaki advised me that chicks are shaving off their edges to rock said lace fronts?!!?!!!?
Bitch huh?
My edges almost meet my eyebrows so of course a little hair is gonna peek out from my lace front...HOWEVER....I am not nor will I EVER shave my shit to put on a wig, that's just down right retarded behavior! You have three options when it comes to edges and lace fronts...
- Let it do what it do on the sides **shrug** fuck it.
- Gel down your edges and "tuck" them under your lace front thus giving you the appearance of a smooth yet realistic hairline (as opposed to shaving it and taping the lace to your head)
- Treat your lace front like a half wig and pull some of your hair out around the edges (lace fronts are fuller and come in more styles than most half wigs)
(By the way...this is the same lace front I started with...see above picture)
Ladies...respect the wig, there is a certain finesse to pulling this off, it's not something to be taken lightly! Beauty is work! And real beauty needs to look AUTHENTIC!
So chickadees...you can get with this....
Ooooooooor....you can get with that...
So my loves....do right by the wig! Do it justice! Serve the wig properly and it will reciprocate!

well u know I'm not a wig girl nor have i ever seen many people rock them right but you my friend have to down packed and there are times i have to ask myself while we out is that her hair..lol..apparently some ppl don't have any real friends because I would never let u leave the house looking half ass in a raggy lace front and shit....and now I see why Kelly and Brandy are friend because they have the worst lace front in the world!!
yup, thats the wig I was talking about!!!
SMh at these poor chicks shaving and drawing in their hairlines looking like Jermaine Jackson.
A class needs to be taught in the right way to wear a lace front because these chicks out here don't know they just look foolish. I've been weavin' it up and wearing lace fronts for awhile now I just can't understand how in the hell people go wrong with them or maybe its just because my mother owns a salon so I was taught the correct how to pull it off.
i'm mad you pulled your smile back with your lace front.
i'm with you tho. i don't really care about what a chick is doing to her hair unless she's doing something wrong. i just like some shit i can grab, feel, & pull. if i can still do that, we good.
