Noooooo! Not those grits silly goose! These grits....

Now I live in VA, that is no secret. People from north of VA consider VA "the south", people from south of VA consider it "semi north", people from VA are split on the matter. I for one think we just hanging out with our wang out in the middle of it all. But I still consider myself south because all my roots are from North Carolina (Halifax County to be exact), my mother, my grandmother, my great grandmother, etc are from there. I learned to do stuff as they would. I learned to cook from them, I learned how to act like a young lady from them. They have a more traditional way of thinking than our northern counterparts so I'm often called old fashioned **shrug** I'm okay with that though. But we are going to delve deeper into this...just because I'm southern does not mean I am....

country

There are major differences between southern....and country as well as major similarities. We will address a few of them now.

Both southern women and country women can burn in the kitchen...we can make brown AND white gravy...from scratch and if will be finger licking good. But southern women will wash their hands prior and during and after making your meal, country women will come straight from outside and don't wash a damn thing before preparing your vittles. Where you think that old saying "You put your foot in dis here" came from?

Both southern women and country women have a fiery temper and often carry or at least know how to shoot a gun. But country women will be loud and indignant at any time, southern women however will wait until an appropriate moment so as to save face.

Both southern women and country women (usually) have big families. But a southern woman's big family is on purpose, a country woman's "just happened".

Both southern women and country women have a noticable "drawl" to their words. Southern women however still speak correct english, country women will alter their words. Example: act = ack, street = skreet, that = dat, come here = come'ear.

Both southern women and country women have a fondness for big hair. Southern women's big hair will be natural colors (brown, black, blonde), a country woman will have big orange, yellow, green, pink hair.

I could go on and on but really you see the difference southern is to country what black people are to niggers....what white folk are to trailer park trash...what latinos are to mexicans...so that was racist, but shit you know it's true!
