Okay...when Nicki Minaj first came out I said to myself...
"Uuuuugh! Another gimmicky ass rapper."
But I respected her hustle...I hate soldier boys music as much as I hate Nicki Minaj's...I would NEVER...EVER buy or promote their work...but I gotta give credit where it's due because I've hummed along to turn my swag on in the past and I damn sure do recite the Nicki Minaj lyrics that have been forced into my memory due to repetition from the radio, MTV Jams, etc...hell I even blink rapidly and roll my head around on my shoulders like that bish does...I'd never do it in public and never in front of my son (I don't allow him to listen to that type of music anyway).
So to Nicki Minaj, I salute your hustle mama, everybody got something to say about you be it negative or positive but you listen to that shit all the while heading to the bank...can't knock that.

Rappers don't have very long shelf lives (Where is Ahmad? Brand Nubian? Chill Rob G?) For every LL Cool J, there are 100 obscure rappers.
Nicki may not be on MTV for very long, so she will have to hustle hard.
I'm just not sure her Lil' Kim homage is smart. Haven't we seen that look and style before?
Anyway, I wish her luck.
you know what's crazy is i heard her on mixtapes and she really CAN spit, but they gimmicked her up- or she allowed it or is okay with it or whatever- and meh.... i don't care for her current style or some (a lot) of the shit she be talkin about MOST of the time, but i do find myself inexplicably unable to change the station when "little freak" or "my chick bad" comes on the radio (unless my kids are in the car). i think it mostly has to do with the beats tho lol.
i, of course, salute her hustle but can't rock with her style like that. i think if she'd stop with that intentional nasal pitch and bringing out the 2 or 3 personalities in one verse, i could tolerate her a bit more. and if she talked about something of substance but that's too much to ask of folks in the industry these days it seems lol. but like you said, she skips to the bank regardless and at the end of the day i'm sure that's all that matters to her too.
she just ain't for me, but i won't deny that if i'm ever tipsy and hear "massive attack" i will probably shake my ass anyway lol.
Maybe I'll just be the first to admit it but I like Nicki. She isn't doing anything that no other female rapper has done to make a mark and money. Lil Kim and Foxy both found what made money for them and ran with it. They both were hard core rapper before discovering that sexy pays. So making funny faces(which hate) and character voices gets her remembered by others she did exactly what she set out to do. Love her or Hate her we are all talking about her.
