Incentive

My son has been having issues this year in school thus far...

I'm talking notes home almost weekly, not finishing his work, visits to the principle....all of that.

A bitch was exasperated, we (his dad and I) had tried EVERYTHING we could think of to get him to straighten up and fly right

Taking away his TV/computer/toys, his dad taking away the computer/DS while he was at his house, speaking with his teacher almost daily, giving him busy work instead of playing and NOTHING was working! So...I'm sitting at work one day and I had an 'ah ha' moment...

What would drive me to do the right thing?

Cold. Hard. Cash!

I gave him a money chart...

I told him that he gets $25.00/month from me guaranteed and he has the opportunity to earn extra money each week if he earns his stars (up to $5.00) per week on top of the $25.00 I've already bequeathed to him and hooooooooneyyyyyy let me tell you! My baby, just this week, has made a complete 180. He did get two notes home this week, and both were good notes!

Hopefully it sticks

Everyone isn't motivated by the same things. As a parent, you have to find that which motivates your child.

I did all of those things for my children too. I found that a mixture of all of those things worked to motivate my children to perform in school.

At some point in time that motivation has to come within though. Mine are in college now and the time for incentives is past, now it's on them. Their lives will be directly effected by their performance.

BUT while your at it you should teach him about tax lol. for every $25 he makes you take a dollar back for state and fed taxes lol. =]

my son got 3 B's and i promised him $5 for every B he made an A and he was ecstatic

@Reggie: So far the money thing is working...we'll see how long it lasts, my son is lazy and wants to do his own thing...I wonder where he gets that from *ponders*

@Shawna: This is true cause I damn sure ain't doing no job lessen I'm paid for it. And the taxes is a good idea!!!! I'll have to let him know about that this week
